Heartfelt Christmas Sentiments ... With Free Image Stamps

This is what I was trying to tell you about in the newsletter-that-never-was : )

It's the last of my Christmas releases for this year. It's a collection of Christmas sentiments which I've called 'Heartfelt {Christmas} Sentiments'.

It contains 15 sentiments, all straight from the heart, ...

... and because these sentiments are timeless, and suitable for Christmas cards year after year after year, regardless of annual trends, I wanted a typeface that reflected that. And this one, I think, reflects that exactly . I feel as though I could use it on my cards in 5 years time and it would still be relevant for Christmas.

And as with all my Christmas releases this year, it's another professional typeface, so the print quality is just wonderful.

'A Berry Merry Christmas'

Sarah is right on trend with her lovely origami paperfolded Christmas Tree. I love paperfolding and I'm pleased to see it making a comeback to mainstrean card making. I think we'll see a lot more of it next year.

Different techniques - layering her printing, and her papers, and paper tearing - all finished with lots of sparkly little details. I think it's usually the little finishing touches that make a nice card into a really lovely one. And here, Sarah's done just that. I just loved the tiny tinsel!

Sarah's spent a lot of time and poured a lot of love into making her Christmas Tree card. And I loved it the moment I saw it.

So I've made my decision. I've chosen the finalists and winner of this year's 'O Christmas Tree' Competition : )

There were a lot of entries for this competition. Many more than usual. And so, there are a lot more finalists. There are 7 of you. And if you can see your card in the image above then you are definitely a finalist ... and you may be the winner.

I'm going to start announcing the results on Monday, here on the blog. I'll be showcasing the designs of one finalist each day, until Saturday. And then on Sunday, I'll be announcing and showcasing the winner.

Tiny Christmas Treasures Cards ... Made Easy

Hello : ) I'm still here. It's just been VERY busy on the web site for the last couple of weeks. And I've been busy judging the entries for the 'O Christmas Tree' competition too. More about that very soon : )

But I did want to pop in and tell you about Katie's latest creative inspiration in this month's Quick Cards Made Easy magazine. Because if you're looking for inspiration for your Christmas cards this year - and who isn't - then this issue (Christmas 2011 - Issue 94) is just perfect for you.

I didn't know there was going to be a Pink Petticoat feature in it. So you can imagine how thrilled I was as I walked into Sainsbury's and saw my 'Tiny Christmas Treasures' peeping out at me from the magazine racks. I let out a little squeal of delight, immediately opened the package and all I could say was 'wow!' as I saw Katie's feature.

It's the Budget Challenge which you can find it on pp48 - 53. It's called '10 cards for £6!'. And Katie's created some very contemporary, very stylish cards using her 'Tiny Christmas Treasures' Image Stamps, and her 'Woodgrain', 'Ribbon Stripes' and 'Doodles' papers designs from the Colour Collection. It's an amazing feature.

Tiny Trees

To continue with my Christmas releases ... these cute 'Tiny Trees' Image Stamps were added to the Boutique yesterday.

There are 6 of them, and you can choose to print them with or without a sentiment. And there are 2 different Christmassy sentiments included - 'O Christmas Tree' and 'Merry Christmas Wishes'.

With the fabulous combination of typefaces, I think the little images look amazing uncoloured. And that's how I'm going to be using them this year. But I got out my Sakura Glaze Pens and few tiny seed beads to show you how gorgeous they look coloured too. They work really well whichever you prefer : )

I've also included a couple of alternate printing options so if you like to, it's very simple to make little folded gift tags to match your cards. I love wrapping gifts to match my cards.

New Colour Collection Papers ... With Free Christmas Sentiments

New Christmas releases ... part three : )

And these are 2 new papers in the Colour Collection, each one with a set of Christmas Sentiments as a free gift.

I'll tell you a little about this one first ...

It's a big dotty paper which is more fashion-trend-led than Christmas-led. Dots are everywhere this season - on pretty blouses, dresses & handbags, home linens ... everywhere. It's a huge trend. And I wanted to make some dotty Christmas cards. And although we already have some dotty papers in the Colour Collection, they weren't quite what I was looking for, for my cards. So I did this one ...

It's based on the existing 'Lots Of Dots' design. And is proportionally the same. But the dots are larger - about the size of the dots in 'Really Big Dots'. A sort of combination of these two ...
... so I've called it 'Lots Of Really Big Dots' : )

It works well in both the positive and negative design options, so I've included both of them in the download. And it's in all 52 colours of the Colour Palette too.

Also included are these lovely 'Handwritten {Christmas} Sentiments' as a little free gift : )

They are 22 different, classic Christmas sentiments in a gorgeous handwritten-style typeface. They're soft & pretty, yet big and bold all at the same time. And they print beautifully. They're gorgeous.

The second of my Christmas releases is a new set of images. I added them to the Boutique yesterday. I've called them 'Mini Rudolphs'. There are 12 of them, 4 of which are little girl reindeers : )

These are the images ...

The download includes the images without a sentiment and with a sentiment too. The sentiments are in 2 styles and they are very similar in style to the 'Ice Christmas' penguins. They work well together if you're making up packs of cards. Which is one of the things I'll be doing with them : )

So ... the first of the new Christmas releases for this year. And the first of the new designs I'm adding to the Colour Collection. And it's called 'Pointy Poinsettias'.

It's a lovely, modern poinsettia design which works perfectly whether you choose it in a colour which will give you a contemporary style to your card, or a colour which will give you a pretty style to your card or a colour more suited to a traditional Christmas style.

It comes, of course, in all 52 colours of the Colour Palette, with either White or shades of Cream, and in both positive and negative design options.

Everything's done. It's time to start the new releases for Christmas 2011 : )

And I have quite a lot of new things this year. I have lots of new designs for the Colour Collection, some new Sentiments, new images and Digi Stamps, a new Papers Collection and ... more : )

I'm going to release them a couple at a time, as I get the files uploaded and the Boutique pages done. So there'll probably be something new every few days, for the next 2 weeks or so.

There's nothing like holding back, when it comes to creativity. You don't need to use a mountain of stash to create something beautiful. Pick a gorgeous pattern, some soft shades and watch the elegance unravel.

Here I printed the stunning "Brocade" along with the "Simple sentiment" onto printable vellum, stitched around the edges and for an extra touch, I filled my pouch with "Punched flowers".

Boutique Update And A Sneak Preview

So the boutique pages are going quite well. I'm not sure I'll meet the target I set myself. But ... you never know. I don't think I'll be too far behind it : )

But I didn't want to launch the new pages without having something new to add to them. And I'm not quite ready for a Christmas launch yet. But I do have a little something. And this little sneak preview is a little flavour of the little something that I am adding. And what will be new when the pages do go live.

It's a set of sentiments. Do you remember the now-retired 'Simple Sentiments' from a few years ago? Well this new set is also called 'Simple Sentiments'. But it's different : ) And lovely. And I've used the.most.trendy combination of fonts.

Just Wanted To Let You Know ...

... where I'll be for the next few days. Just in case I don't get chance to pop in here : )

As you know, I've been doing a little redesigning on the web site. I've already done a couple of sections, like the contact pages and the newsletter pages. But the biggest challenge for me was always going to be the Boutique pages. Partly because there are so many of them. But mostly because it's the real techie bit!

Anyway, I've reorganised and redesigned the pages how I'd like them to be at this stage. And they are nice - and a HUGE improvement on what we've got at the moment. But it is going to take me several days to complete. And there's really only one way for me to do this. And that's sit at my computer, concentrate on the web site and not move until they're done.

So that's what I'm going to do. And it's where I am if I'm not here : )

I've set myself a target for completion. And I'd like them done, ready for you to use and ready for me to add some new goodies before the next episode of The Great British Bake Off - next Tuesday. Wasn't Janet a little star last night? No soggy bottoms! I like Janet. I'd love her to win. But I think Holly probably will. Holly is SO good.

I have a card to share with you today. It's a very special card for me.

Firstly because it's for Des.
And secondly because, apart from the cards I've done for the web site, this is the first card I've made especially for someone since March!

Would you believe I've spent all summer buying cards? And it always makes me feel a bit of a fraud when I give someone a shop-bought card. It's just not the same is it? I always give them with just as much love as those I make myself. But they just don't feel like it to me. I think it's because I know that all the extra love we always pour into our special handmade cards is missing. So it feels really good to have made this : )

Anyway ... back to Des. My card is to congratulate him on his new job. He's recently been given the post of Duty Manager at The Porthminster Hotel in St Ives, now known as St Ives Harbour Hotel. The Porthminster.

If you've ever been to St Ives, you'll probably know The Porthminster. If not, she's the beautiful Victorian building sitting very elegantly above Porthminster beach. This one ...

Until a couple of years ago she was a family-run hotel. Then she was acquired by the Harbour Hotels Group who are spending literally millions transforming her. And she is beginning to look very gorgeous. So is her fabulous new spa : ) And part of the transformation includes a new management team. And it is this new management team that Des is now part of.

It's a totally new direction for Des. He's very excited about it. And I'm absolutely thrilled for him. And I just know he's going to be fantastic at it. Congratulations Des. And enjoy!

Lovely, Lovely Lavender

Lavender is one of my favourite flowers. I love everything about it from it's delicate little flowers, it's gorgeous fragrance and, of course, it's fabulous colours. I don't think my home is ever without it. I use the flowers and the oils for all sorts of things.

Using lavender to dress an outdoor dining table in the summer is one of my favourite things to do with it. So too is giving it away in little bunches.

And have I just been very lucky or has lavender been especially fabulous in the garden this year? I've cut bunch after bunch of it for my bedrooms and kitchen this summer, given lots of it away and I still have a huge bag of dried flowers that I can use for myself and for gifts. And the border is still producing flowers so there's more to come. The fragrance has been unbelievable as well. It's seemed more perfumed than ever. It's been a-maz-ing!

And the bees ... they've LOVED it!

The lavender seems to attract them into the garden. And then they find lots of other little treasures too : ) I love to see them busying themselves amongst the flowers.

Lovely lavender and busy little bees. The simplest of pleasures : ) And one of the many joys of summer.

I added two new products to the Boutique yesterday - 'Hydrangeas' which is a new set of papers in the Colour Collection and 'Tiny {Blooming} Sentiments', a new set of sentiments.

This is the Hydrangea design. It's a version of the Hydrangea Petals paper in 'Wild Blossoms'. And it's very pretty. It's in all 52 colours, and it looked lovely in both the positive and negative design options, so I've included both of them in the set.

And these are the sentiments ...

They're in the same tiny mixed-font style as the others in the Tiny Sentiments series, although there are more of them. There are 40 of these. They'll punch or cut out easily with a variety of punches and dies. And they are all designed especially for using with flower-themed cards and flower images. They are lovely sentiments. And there are a few blooming's in there : )

For my cards, my inspiration came from the hydrangeas in my garden - my gorgeous hydrangea paniculatas! I love them. Aren't they pretty?

... so I decorated my papers with a little sprinkling of Glamour Dust glitter and 'Raspberry' Perfect Pearls. I actually almost threw the Perfect Pearls away a while ago. I tend to use more crystals and stick on pearls now and didn't think I'd use them any more. But they were perfect for how I wanted to decorate my paper. I'm so glad I kept them.

... there'll be something new in the Boutique this weekend : )

There are two new designs, and they're both new designs in the Colour Collection. Although I can't claim any credit for these. Both of them are papers from existing Collections, and both were requested by you to be added to the Colour Collection.

I'll tell you a little about them.

The first one, is a version of the brocade design from 'Perfect' papers ...

... and the second, Cherries, is a version of the multi coloured cherries paper from 'Wild Blossoms'. I've made the design slightly smaller for these. It worked better with a single colour background.

Both are negative-only designs. And if you're new to the Colour Collection, these are the 52 colours in the colour palette included for each design ...

I just wanted to post these : ) They're the winning designs from the competitions I've held since 2006. They were hidden away on the web site before my mini redesign.

And although the papers and images - apart from Really Big Dots - have looooong been retired, I didn't want the cards to disappear forever.

They're far too beautifully made, much too pretty and the ideas are simply timeless. And it's really nice to see them again isn't it? Somewhere we can find them more easily too.

Pretty And Practical ... And Free!

It's been quite a year of 'firsts' for Pink Petticoat so far this year - my first Pink Petticoat paper pack, my first Pink Petticoat stamps ... and now this ... my first Pink Petticoat storage tin.

It's the first time I've been involved in designing a project that wasn't specifically for paper crafters. It's still for crafters though : )

This pretty and practical, cute little storage tin will be a free gift with the next issue of 'The World of Cross Stitching'. Do you recognise the design? It's from the 'Vintage Rose' Collection. Doesn't it look adorable?

This has been a very exciting project for me to be involved with. And I'm really looking forward to having my little Pink Petticoat tin in my Pink Petticoat studio. In fact, I might just have more than one ... one for pink buttons, one for blue buttons, one for brads ... and the little magnet in the lid will be perfect for keeping my pretty little hat pins stored safely away.

Pretty Storage Jars

Well, I haven't been able to design or create anything which I liked recently. But I can still keep my craft studio looking pretty : )

So I was really pleased to find these pretty little storage jars in the The Range on a recent shopping trip. I actually found them a couple of weeks ago. I just haven't been able to post my photos because I then managed to find myself chicken pox too. And what a nasty little virus that is! It totally wiped me out for a while.

I think this is my favourite - my little Prima cupcake stand ...

... but I do love all of them - they hold everything I want them too, I can see what's inside and there's room for more : )

What Katie Does Best

I've only just seen this - Katie's fabulous new four-part design masterclass, 'Your Guide to Colour' in Quick Cards Made Easy magazine. It starts in the current issue (June 2011 - Issue 88). And it's a really inspiring series.

Not only is Katie sharing her very own tips for experimenting with and using colour creatively in your card making. But she's sharing the most gorgeous card ideas, in the most gorgeous colour combinations, all in her very own, distinctive style, too. This month the colour mix is apricot, navy and grey. Next month, it's lemon, cocoa and apple. If they sound good enough to eat, it's because they are!

You'll find the first part of Katie's Masterclass on pp50 -51. Take a look - it's Katie doing what Katie does best. And you will love it.

It's A Small {Crafting} World

I have a photo to share with you today ... and although it doesn't look very 'crafty', it does have a connection to crafting and a connection to Pink Petticoat.

The girl on the right in the photo above is Eileen Beaumont. Some of you will already know Eileen through her cards. Eileen's blog is at http://myartisticdesigns.blogspot.com/ She makes lovely cards : )

The photo is of a family Christening. Eileen is standing with her sister, her mum, Florrie and her dad. And the little bundle of frilly white lace that Eileen's mum is holding in the photograph above ... is me. The photo was taken at my Christening.

And the family connection? Eileen's mum, Florrie and my grandmother, Lizzie, were sisters : )

It was a chance conversation recently that made me wonder if the Eileen Beaumont I knew was one of my customers, was also the Eileen I used to know as 'Aunty' Eileen when I was a little girl, way back in my growing-up days in Halifax. Well, not tooooo way back.

One fabulous 'phone call later, not only did it turn out that it was, but Eileen also shared the most wonderful family photos with me. And agreed to let me share this one with you : ) Wasn't that lovely of her? Thank you SO much Eileen. (((BIG hugs)))

Eileen is now my new crafting friend : )

"I am married to Dan and I'm a full-time mum to my little boy, Elliot, who has just turned 1 year old.

Now the sleepless nights are subsiding, I am finding more time (and energy lol!) to craft again. I have been crafting as long as I can remember. When I was little, I used to cut up large pieces of paper to make small books and ask my mum to stitch them together. And she always joked that I owned more pens and paper than WHSMith! She still makes the same joke., But now says I have more paper than Hobbycraft!

My fave thing to do is Rubber Stamping. But I love to try new things and get my fingers messy. Sometimes, I don't make anything. I just sit and play with my inks and punches ... it's a bit like cooking ... a bit of this and a bit of that ... and just see what happens!"

If you're treating yourself to a magazine this weekend, the latest issue of Cardmaking and Papercraft (April - Issue 90) would be a great one to add to your wish-list, because it is FULL of inspiration for creating with your Pink Petticoat papers.

Starting on pp9-12, and the fabulous cards Dawny Phillips has made with the cute free stamps set, all use paper designs from the Colour Collection ... 'Pretty Little Hearts', 'Gingham', 'Lots of Dots' and 'Pinstripes'. As do her cards in the '10 ideas for accenting images' feature on pp58-60.

On pp27-29, Hazel Conboy has created some magical fairy cards and has used her papers from the 'Big Fella' Collection, along with 'Ribbon Stripes', 'Sweet Flourishes', 'Big Swirls', 'Doodle Swirls', 'Doodle Dots' and 'Little Big Dots' from the Colour Collection.

So, two new products went into the Boutique today. This is the first one ...a 'Cakestand' Digi Stamp

As with all the individual Digi Stamps, it can be printed individually, as well as 4 on a sheet of A4 and there are .png, .jpg & .tif file printing options included in the download.

The second new product is the 'Sweet Treats' Sentiments.

In a selection of sizes, about half of them are the same size as the 'Tiny Sentiments' Series. So you can still use your Stampin' Up Word Window Punch with some of them : ) And they are all similar in style.

And the very stylish, very gorgeous card you're looking at is by Leann : )

The 'Cakestand' Digi Stamp will usually be £1.25.
And the 'Sweet Treats' Sentiments will be £1.49.

More Spring Cleaning

This is not good news for Des and his tissue paper ... but I'm discontinuing CDs and DVDs : (

Once the current stock of Pink Petticoat CDs has gone, and I've used up the blank CDs and DVDs I use to burn Personal Collections, they will be no more at Pink Petticoat.

Why? There simply isn't enough demand for CDs anymore. The vast majority of you prefer to download your files. And Pink Petticoat will be a better business if I concentrate my efforts on doing downloads ... and doing them better.

So instead, I'll be offering
- more, smaller sized, single file downloads
- more help for those of you who find downloading a little daunting

and I'll be giving you some free, printable CD covers for those occasions when you do want a disc, maybe for a gift, and will burn and wrap your own. They'll also be perfect if you back up your downloads to CD or DVD too : )

From a purely business perspective, I should have made this decision quite a while ago. It hasn't actually made any practical sense to continue with them for some time. But it always made me feel a little sad to even think about discontinuing them. Mr very-practical Pink Petticoat always thought that was strange. But I have a very strong emotional attachment to Pink Petticoat and have invested a lot personally in it's success. CDs are where Pink Petticoat started and I've been producing them for a looooooong time. And to me, it's going to feel a little odd to be Pink Petticoat without CDs. I'm going to miss them. And they're going to leave a little hole. But, we make a decision and we move on don't we? And if the times are a-changing ......... I just have to make sure I fill that little hole with something better : )

I don't like long goodbyes though. So I've reduced the prices on the current Pink Petticoat stock CDs and DVDs to {HALF PRICE}. Once they're gone, they're gone. Forever. So if you've got a CD on your wish-list, now's your last chance to get it.

A Sweet Treat And A Chance To Win

Me? I'm not really a cake-eater. But I do love cakes. I always love to see a beautiful cake and can't pass a cake shop without stopping to look through the window, admiring the fabulous creations. And I am usually quite envious of those who can make them. Because I can't. And I think there is something to treasure in the moment we see a home baked cake, lovingly made and proudly presented on a special occasion. They're memory-making moments. And cakes often have a part to play in special memories. But I think I get more pleasure in admiring them. I'm just not really into eating them. But ... if anything can persuade me, it's a cake made with fresh strawberries. Especially a cake with fresh strawberries on the top. Any cake decorated with strawberries and I can be very easily tempted : )

It's out! The Creative Cardmaking Special Edition 7. The Pink Petticoat Special Edition. It's available online now. And it has a pink cover : )

It has 32 free Pink Petticoat printed papers, images and sentiments, and is absolutely FULL of beautiful cards you can make with them from the best UK designers such as Angie Parkins, Missy Neal, Wendy Martin, Andrea Gourley, Dawny Phillips, Kirsty Maluga, Patsy Jackson, Jo Kill, to name just a few ... and including, of course, our very own Katie, Leann, Terrie and Vicky.

And, we have 10 copies to give away. We each have 2 of them : )

And it's very simple to win one. Each of the girls from the Creative Team have posted one of the cards they designed especially for the magazine on their blog. These are the Digi Stamps that are new in the Boutique today ... 'Material Girl'. Cute vintage-style sewing machines. There are two of them. One with roses ...

... and one with daisies.

As with all the individual Digi Stamps, they can be printed individually, as well as 4 on a sheet of A4 and there are .png, .jpg & .tif file printing options included in the download.

But these digi stamps have a couple of little extras too : ) They both include the cutest little bobbins ...

and a sheet of sentiments

They will normally be £1.99 each. But until 28th February, you don't have to choose which one you'd like. You can have both, because they're buy one get one free!

Paperchase Finds

My new papers and card blanks : ) From Paperchase.

They are traditionally handmade in India, using recycled cotton rag. They are a nice weight, 210gsm, and the ones I chose are 150mm square. They had A6 and mini size too. And the paper has a fabulous texture and finish.

There isn't a weight spec for the paper. And if I tried to guess I'm likely to be totally wrong. So I won't. But it's a little lighter in weight than the card blanks.

They cost me a little more than I would usually pay for card blanks and paper - a pack of 5 cards with matching envelopes cost me £5.00. But they are a little bit different, and they print beautifully.

And I really like them : )

I have some very exciting news for you today. And a request, for you to give a HUGE Pink Petticoat welcome to the lovely Lucy Abrams who is joining Pink Petticoat as a Guest Designer today!

Lucy has a very fresh, very clean, very contemporary creative style. Her cards are immediately eye-catching in the simplicity of their layout and design and fabulous use of colour. And from time to time, Lucy will now be sharing her wonderful Pink Petticoat creations with us right here on the Pink Petticoat blog too. Doesn't that sound fabulous? I think so too.

We are very lucky here at Pink Petticoat. We have an amazing, inspirational Creative Design Team who always share amazing, inspirational card designs with us. I think Lucy's designs are going to be an amazing addition to those. And you'll enjoy them.

These are next - a couple of 'crafty' Digi Stamps.

Dressmaking and sewing for me : ) I absolutely LOVE to design and make my own clothes and soft furnishings. I took my first steps into crafts as a little girl with my sewing machine - making soft toys and clothes for my dolls - a long time before I discovered playing with paper. I think I could probably sew before I could walk! I love to knit and crochet too, although I'm not really very good at those. And I'd love to be able to make perfect cupcakes, little chocolates and hand made soaps too. I've played a little - but not enough!

I think I just adore all things 'handmade'. And it'll be lovely to find out if we share other interests as well as card making : )
